Play Lotto Online

When you play lotto online, you basically circumvent the traditional approach to taking part in games of chance. You have no doubt done it the old way, getting one of those slips of papers from a local market or cornershop, crossed out your lucky ones and had the thing processed by the shops lottery machine.

How to play lotto online

I‘m not going to denounce that method, far from it. This article is intended to give an insight into a different approach to the whole process and furthermore, give you some good reasons for actively considering this option.

Play Any Lotto In The World Online

Well, let me follow this heading up with a caveat. I cannot say for certain that all the lotteries in the world are available for online play. The biggest online ticket service I am aware of currently offers 49 different games – and within that are all the biggest players.

When I say ‚biggest players‘ I am referring to massive prize pot lotteries such as the US Powerball, Mega Millions, Euromillions lotto, Superenalotto and others. These might actually be the reason you are reading this article today, since these games regularly run the jackpot amounts up to such amounts that we cannot help take notice. Even the non lotto players find their heads turned!

To give some context, the current world record lottery jackpot is an astronomical 1.6 billion US dollars.

So yeah, when the word gets out that something like that is waiting to get won – a lot of people start wondering how they can get in on the action and most decide to play lotto online.

ANYONE CAN PLAY THE LOTTO ONLINE

Why wouldn‘t you have a go? The main reason lotto is so popular is surely the fact that it takes very little skill or knowledge on the part of the player.

Typically the format is based around two pools of numbers: There are the main numbers, of which you do most commonly pick five numbers (although this does vary) and the second pool will then contain the bonus numbers. These are fewer and in turn a player will also need to pick fewer of them, in most games you need two.

When the lottery machines start whirring and spitting out the evenings winning numbers, you will need to match them all to take home the top jackpot prize. The odds can be very long, especially in the big prize pot lotteries – that is the key element in building up the amounts. This happens through extended periods of time.

The major lottery games have 2 draws per week, and the Italian Superenalotto actually does three. When the top prize is not won, it rolls over to the next following draw: The jackpot amount is maintained for the next drawing and furthermore, ticket prices leading up to that drawing are used to boost it more. As the amount in play gets bigger, the public interest also grows and spurs on the growth.

It took the American Powerball 20 rollovers to reach the record 1.6 billion dollars.

Which lotto should I play online?

You‘d be surprised how many times I get asked this question. I suppose people who don‘t know better assume that some lotteries are easier to win than others.

That is of course true, let‘s take a small example.

UK LOTTO

  • The UK Lotto is played in the United Kingdom. It is a 6 ball game.
  • A drawing consists of 5 main numbers drawn from a pool of 59.
  • There is 1 bonus number, drawn from the same pool.
  • The odds of winning the jackpot are roughly 1 in 45 million.

SUPERENALOTTO

  • The Superena Lotto is played in Italy. It is also a 6 ball game.
  • Here we have 90 numbers in the pool to choose from.
  • You pick six main numbers and have to match all for the jackpot.
  • The odds of winning the big one are roughly 1 in 622 million!

Crunching the numbers

So if one were to choose a game to play based on this data, I suppose many would be leaning towards the UK Lotto. But if we dwell on it a bit longer, then the reality of it is that 1 in 45 million is already a long shot. Its the nature of the game and something that lottery players accept – chances are you won‘t win, no matter which game you pick / what odds you have on the jackpot.

This is why I watch the jackpots. I play the lotto online because I enjoy it and moderate my expectations. I don‘t gamble with money that I can‘t afford to loose and advice everyone to do the same.

When the Mega Millions lottery breaks $500 million dollars, I don‘t start wondering what the odds of actually winning it are. I buy my ticket and hope for the best. If it doesn‘t come in, there is always a new jackpot to play for soon after – or it even rolls over, so I get another chance at it and the prize amount is higher!
