Ireland strikes gold as EuroMillions winner scoops 12.8m euros jackpot

A EuroMillions winner has hit the jackpot in Ireland, bringing the country’s total of lucky winners to two in recent weeks. The lucky Irish EuroMillions winner will share the 25.6 million euros jackpot with a player in Spain, with each taking home a cheque for a whopping 12,801,474 euros. Both players matched five numbers and two lucky stars in Friday’s draw.

The numbers drawn on Friday 8th of September 2013 were:
 11, 23, 25, 32, and 37, while the lucky star numbers were 4 and 7.

Irelands latest Euromillions winner remains anonymous

National Lottery officials are keeping mum on the details of the retail outlet that sold the winning ticket, while also advising the EuroMillions winner to immediately sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place. It was the second time in three months that an Irish EuroMillions winner split the jackpot. In June, a shop in Beaumont, Dublin, sold a winning ticket. The ticket holder from Beaumont, who wished to remain anonymous, became the 96th richest person in the country after taking home a cool 93.9 million euros after splitting the top prize of 188 million euros with a EuroMillions winner in Belgium. National Lottery officials said the jackpot was the second biggest in Ireland’s history.
The EuroMillions winner from Beaumont, who picked up the prize in July at the National Lottery offices, was quoted as saying that they’re “absolutely thrilled” and “looking forward about all the opportunities” during the “really exciting time.”

According to the National Lottery, the EuroMillions jackpot has already generated 4.9 million euros for “good causes” in the country. There have been five jackpot EuroMillions winners in the Republic of Ireland since the EuroMillions lottery was launched in 2004. Dolores McNamara holds the record for the largest win after taking home over 115 million euros in 2005. National Lottery officials said a 15 million winning ticket was sold in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary in July 2008, while another EuroMillions winner in Dublin hit the 29.4 million euros jackpot in June 2009.

Euromillions jackpots keep rolling

The highest ever jackpot in EuroMillions history is 190 million euros paid out in 2011. Lottery chiefs say the jackpot broke the European record for the largest single jackpot of any lottery worldwide. EuroMillions, Europe’s biggest, rolling jackpot lottery game, is played in nine countries and pools together the stakes of the participating countries, which include Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The EuroMillions lottery draw takes place in Paris every Tuesday and Friday evening. Five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two lucky stars from 1 to 11 are drawn together. Lottery players can match a minimum of three numbers – three main numbers, one main number and two lucky stars or two main numbers and one lucky star – to win a prize. To win the EuroMillions jackpot, one must match all five main numbers and two lucky stars. Aside from retail outlets, EuroMillions players can also buy their ticket online and play alone, or opt to play the EuroMillions as part of a syndicate and have everything – from the ticket purchase to the division of winnings – handled for them.
